The Eagle – Original Woodburned Plaque

The front of this plaque is a golden eagle I hand-burned for Inktober 2022. It is based on a 1916 illustration of the same name from The Birds of Shakespeare by Sir Archibald Geikie.

The backside of this plaque features one of the first woodburnings I ever made back in 2020, later titled “Vessel”. When I first made these pieces I did not expect to sell them, so I would often practice on the backsides of my plaques to save money on materials. Now, we can consider it a bit of a 2-for-1 deal. I consider The Eagle (2022) and Vessel (2020) to be the best pieces I made in their respective years, so the pair of them sharing a canvas is fitting to me.
